Almost 80,000 refugees from Ukraine crossed the border into Poland yesterday alone. The number of refugees in the neighboring country is now approaching the two million mark.
Almost 1.7 million people have fled to safety in Poland since the Russian attack on Ukraine. This was announced by the Polish border guard on Sunday on the short message service Twitter.
Around 79,800 people crossed the border on Saturday alone, an increase of five percent compared to the previous day. The influx was particularly strong at the Medyka border crossing in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.
Another 16,800 Ukrainians were dispatched between midnight and 7 a.m. on Sunday, it said. There is currently no official information on how many of the war refugees stayed in Poland and how many have already traveled on to other EU countries. Poland and Ukraine are connected by a national border that is more than 500 kilometers long.
