Emmanuel Macron casual at work: The French President’s personal photographer photographed him in a hoodie and jeans. This reminds many of his Ukrainian colleagues.
Emmanuel Macron is a master of self-expression. Sometimes the French President is state-supporting, sometimes deliberately relaxed. Macron also regularly sets accents on social media – visually, above all with the support of his photographer Soazig De La Moissonnière, who photographs Macron behind the scenes in the Élysée Palace or on his travels.
The photographer has now succeeded in creating very special pictures that attract the attention of many Internet users. They show Macron at work in his seat of government, on the phone at his desk and in conferences with his employees. The 44-year-old’s outfit catches the eye: he wears a casual black hoodie instead of a suit and tie. Above all, a photo in which the president stands in the doorway with a stack of files under his arm and squints one eye is doing the rounds on the Internet.

Emmanuel Macron in the footsteps of the Ukrainian President
Many are reminded of Macron’s staging of Volodymyr Zelenskyy: In his video messages from the war zone, the Ukrainian President appears in camouflage T-shirts and sweaters, thereby shaping a whole new image of a head of state. Does Macron expect an image change from this?
After all, the French President is not just wearing any hoodie in the pictures: the lettering “CPA 10” is embroidered on the front of the garment. The abbreviation stands for “Commando Parachutiste de l’Air no 10”, a special unit of the French Air Force. A clear message in times of war: the President exudes strength and supports the military.
It is also probably no coincidence that photographer De La Moissonnière pointed out on Instagram that the pictures were taken on Sunday: During a global political crisis there is no weekend for Macron, even if he does business in jeans and a hoodie.
Macron hopes for re-election
The reactions to Macron’s appearance are quite divided: some appreciate the coolness of the president, others accuse him of an exaggerated staging that is not appropriate for the office of head of state. It remains to be seen whether Macron can score points for his intended re-election. The first round of the presidential elections in France is scheduled for April 10th.

The French President’s appearance is reminiscent of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who appeared in a casual gray sweater on a trip. But the SPD politician’s supposed baggy look had its price: The sweater costs 300 euros in stores.
