War against Ukraine: Putin and Erdogan agree on further contacts

Turkish President Erdogan spoke to Kremlin chief Putin about the Russian war in Ukraine. Among other things, Erdogan invited Putin to a meeting – with Zelenskyj in Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin spoke again about the war in Ukraine and agreed on further contacts.

According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, Erdogan once again called for a ceasefire and the establishment of effective humanitarian corridors on Thursday. He also invited Putin to Turkey to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the Kremlin, Putin informed about the progress of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives to resolve the conflict.

The Russian President Erdogan discussed various aspects of the development of the situation in Ukraine around the “military operation to protect Donbass”, the Kremlin said. Details were not given.

Exchange of further economic relations

Moscow recently thanked Ankara repeatedly for Turkey not joining the West in sanctions against Russia. The presidents also exchanged views on the further development of their trade and economic relations.

The day before, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met his counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Russia. On Thursday he then met the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba for talks in Lviv. According to Anadolu, Kuleba expressed the wish that Turkey would become one of the guarantors of a possible peace agreement with Russia. Russia also agrees, Cavusoglu said.
