Luzhniki Stadium Moscow: Putin gives a speech to tens of thousands of people – the show breaks off

In front of tens of thousands of cheering people, Russia’s President Putin gave a speech in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium when the state television broadcast ended. The Kremlin speaks of technical problems.

More than three weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin praised his army for a “heroic” mission. All plans would be implemented, Putin said in a speech to tens of thousands of cheering people at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Friday.

The performance caused a sensation, however, because the broadcast on state television was suddenly interrupted without any reason being given. Instead, recorded images ran. It was only after several minutes that the coverage of the performance in the stadium continued.

Putin finished the speech in the stadium, but was conspicuously short. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cited technical problems as the reason for the interruption. There was a glitch on a server. A little later, the speech was shown in full on the Rossiya 24 TV channel. The reason for Putin’s appearance was the eighth anniversary of the annexation of the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea on March 18, 2014.

Flags with the letter Z

In the stadium, people waved the Russian state flag and flags with the letter Z, which symbolizes the “military special operation”. The people shouted: «For Russia. For the win.” Above the stage on which Putin appeared was written: “For a world without Nazism”. The reason for the performance was the eighth anniversary of the incorporation of the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea on March 18, 2014.
