Protest against Putin: civil rights activists: over 900 arrests at demos in Russia

In many places people are protesting against the Russian attack on Ukraine. But even in Russia, not everyone is behind President Putin. The authorities crack down on new demonstrations.

According to civil rights activists, almost a thousand people were arrested in Russia on Sunday during renewed demonstrations against the war in Ukraine.

At least 937 people in 38 cities were arrested by the afternoon, according to the OWD-Info organization. There were protests in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Vladivostok, among others.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly cracked down on demonstrators critical of the Kremlin. According to OWD-Info, more than 15,000 people have been arrested for anti-war demonstrations since the Russian attack on Ukraine began on February 24.

Some demonstrators have already been arrested several times, the organization writes on its Telegram channel. There are sometimes fines and arrests. According to the information, a criminal prosecution campaign against opponents of the war and members of the opposition was initiated. At least 37 cases against 43 people would be pursued.
