The French authorities are targeting Russian oligarchs – a task force is to locate their assets. Economics Minister Bruno Le Maire reports initial successes.
France has frozen and seized assets of Russian oligarchs worth around 850 million.
Real estate worth 539 million euros has been blocked, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire told radio station RTL. In addition, 150 million euros were frozen in private accounts of French banks and two yachts worth 150 million euros were fixed, Le Maire further specified.
France has set up a task force in connection with EU sanctions against Russian oligarchs or people close to President Vladimir Putin. Its task is to locate their assets in France and to identify the owners of bank accounts, luxury villas and yachts, which proves complicated given the many shell companies that hide their identities.
