This is to prevent the corona virus from spreading further after the summer holidays. All people aged twelve and over must provide proof of 3G upon entry (vaccination, health certificate or negative test result). Air passengers have already been subject to this obligation, now the requirement also applies to entry by car or train.
The German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced rigorous controls and severe penalties. “Anyone who travels to Germany must expect to be checked,” he told “Bild am Sonntag”. In order to prevent traffic jams in holiday traffic, there will be samples at the EU’s internal borders. However, everyone is checked at airports and seaports.
There is a risk of sensitive fines
Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) also appealed to vacationers on Sunday to adhere to the new rules. “We have to do everything possible to keep the entry of additional infections as low as possible.” At the same time he warned: “Anyone who violates the Corona protective measures must expect severe fines!”
Veil investigators check at the borders with Austria and the Czech Republic whether people are complying with the new entry rules. “The Bavarian Border Police, in close cooperation with the Federal Police, will check travelers returning from abroad as part of the random veil search in order to check compliance with the stricter rules,” said Herrmann. The Bavarian riot police will also support the officers at the border.
Meanwhile, the controls at the German-Austrian border in Kiefersfelden (Rosenheim district) started without any problems, said a spokeswoman for the German Federal Police. The police did not report any problems in Selb in northern Bavaria (district of Wunsiedel) on the border with the Czech Republic.
Exceptions for commuters and day trippers
Exceptions to the Compulsory test there are for cross-border commuters, business travelers or day trippers who only stay in Germany for 24 hours. According to a broadcast on Saturday, the state of Tyrol was preparing for possible backlogs due to the new controls. At the same time, with a view to returning German holidaymakers to Italy, it was emphasized that the country’s free trial offer was only available to locals and holidaymakers in Tyrol.
If you stay in areas with new, worrying virus variants, proof of a test is required. Proof of recovery or vaccination is not sufficient in this case. In addition, there are now only two instead of three categories for worldwide areas with higher risk of infection: high-risk areas and areas in which new, worrying virus variants are circulating.
