“Come in the name of peace”: Ukraine’s President Zelenskyj has called for protests against the war in his country. He addressed another message to the citizens of Russia.
A month ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on people around the world to publicly protest on Thursday to mark the start of the war.
“Come out of your offices, your homes, your schools and universities,” said Zelenskyj in a video speech published on Telegram on Thursday night. “Come in the name of peace, come with Ukrainian symbols to support Ukraine, freedom and life.”
The war that started on February 24 is not only a war against Ukraine, but Russia is trying to destroy the freedom of all people in Europe and the world, Zelenskyy said. Moscow is trying to show “that only gross and cruel violence counts”. That’s why the war opponents should go into the inner cities from Thursday and make themselves visible and audible.
