Around 7,000 new refugees arrived within a day. In the previous week, the federal police had recorded more than ten thousand Ukraine refugees every day.
The flow of refugees from the Ukraine to Germany continues unabated. However, the federal and state governments do not yet have a precise overview of the number of people who have arrived.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Police have registered a total of 253,157 war refugees since the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine a month ago. Within a day, around 7,000 new refugees arrived – a similar number to the days before. In the previous week, more than ten thousand Ukraine refugees had entered the country every day and were recorded by the federal police.
Since there are usually no fixed border controls at the internal EU borders and Ukrainians are also allowed to enter the country without a visa, the number of people who actually arrived is probably significantly higher. It is also not recorded how many of the refugees from Germany travel on to other countries.
Repeat orders for registration devices
As can be seen from a response from the federal government to a question by AfD MP Leif-Erik Holm, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) recorded a total of around 26,500 people who were registered as seeking protection and processed by the identification service by last Sunday. However, the Federal Ministry of the Interior pointed out that people with non-Ukrainian nationality who fled Ukraine have only been separately expelled since March 15. According to the information, 1,315 of the 14,706 war refugees registered since then were not Ukrainians.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior asked the federal states to check whether additional registration devices would have to be ordered in order to increase capacity, a spokeswoman said on request. “As a result, many federal states triggered repeat orders,” she added.
The so-called spade stations are provided by Bundesdruckerei. The capture devices include a camera, a document verification device and a fingerprint scanner. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Bamf supports the registration offices in the current situation with 170 such registration devices and 260 employees.
According to the UN refugee agency, more than 3.7 million people have fled Ukraine since the war began. No country has taken in as many people seeking protection as neighboring Poland.
