“The country is paralyzed by proportional representation”

A symbolic place, because moving into the state parliament is the declared goal of the Neos this year after it did not work on the first attempt in 2015.

Support for the Upper Austrian Neos top candidate Felix Eypeltauer came from Vienna: Federal party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger not only traveled to Linz especially for this appointment, but was also posted together with Eypeltauer. “We are the only new force that will move into the Upper Austrian state parliament,” was the message of the two Neos politicians yesterday. This refreshment is urgently needed, according to Eypeltauer: “The fact that a new generation of politics is needed in Upper Austria is shown by the enormously limited opportunities for young families through to a state government that is paralyzed by proportional representation and prevents real political control.” In terms of content, the Neos yesterday demanded, among other things, a legal right to a childcare place from the 1st birthday and the reintroduction of free afternoon care.

Politicians have expected a lot from people in recent months. Meinl-Reisinger criticized the Turkish establishment only looking after itself, which is no different in Upper Austria than at the federal level. “After the time of the pandemic, the time of the Freunderlwirtschaft and the scandals, we are all longing for an honest new start. For that we need the Neos,” said Meinl-Reisinger.
