With his loyalty to Vladimir Putin and Gazprom, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder has long been a thorn in his party’s side. According to a media report, there are now seven applications for party order proceedings against him.
According to a report, the number of party branches in the SPD demanding the expulsion of former chancellor Gerhard Schröder is growing. In the meantime, seven applications for a party organization procedure are pending at the responsible arbitration commission of the SPD in Hanover. The applicants included two district associations and five local associations. The magazine referred to party information.
The arbitration committee had internally suggested that an oral procedure be avoided and that the case be dealt with in writing instead, the “Spiegel” reported further. The applicants have until the beginning of April to agree on a procedure. It is expected that all applications will be treated together, because the reasons for Schröder’s exclusion from the party are very similar.
Gerhard Schröder does not comment on the SPD
According to the report, the former chancellor himself has not yet made a statement to the arbitration commission. It is still unclear whether he will be represented by a lawyer in the regulatory proceedings. According to “Spiegel” in the SPD Hanover, he may also refrain from expressing himself entirely.
Schröder has not only maintained friendly contacts with the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin for years, but is also chairman of the shareholders’ committee of Nord Stream AG and chairman of the supervisory board of the Russian state energy company Rosneft. Schröder is also running for a post on the board of directors of the state-owned Russian energy company Gazprom.
