War in Europe, corona pandemic and climate crisis: Political Berlin hardly ever rests. In the “today important” podcast, journalist Daniel Bröckerhoff analyzes the federal government’s record of the crisis.
Special assets for the Bundeswehr, a relief package because of the increased energy costs, debates about the climate crisis. Political Berlin hardly ever rests. At the latest during the general debate on the federal budget, it became clear that the unity of the first few days in the Bundestag has evaporated.
In episode 241 of “Today Important”, the journalist and moderator Daniel Bröckerhoff says the government is trying to tear itself between the liberalism of the FDP and the idealism of the Greens. For example, according to Bröckerhoff, the Ministry of Defense does not need more money, but “someone who can handle money”. The NDR presenter and journalist finds words of praise for Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her feminist foreign policy. While CDU leader Friedrich Merz criticizes them, Bröckerhoff is convinced that this style of politics could encourage countries to cooperate more with each other. On the other hand, Bröckerhoff almost feels sorry for Economics Minister Robert Habeck, since he “has to kiss feet” in Qatar just “to save our asses” because the CDU missed out on energy independence.

Bird plague in Venice: first pigeons, now seagulls
Until 2014, the dove was something of a tourist heraldic animal in Venice. At that time, 100,000 pigeons lived in the lagoon city and anyone who returned from Venice without a photo of a pigeon on St. Mark’s Square had not really been there. But then, almost from one day to the next, the pigeons were no longer allowed to be fed. The reason for this: Four tons of faeces – every day. Today Venice has its pigeons under control, but the city has a new bird problem…
More and more seagulls are settling in Venice and they are becoming more and more cheeky. Because they sometimes almost ambush tourists in order to steal their food and destroy tons of dishes at open-air hotel buffets every day, some hoteliers are now taking action against the birds on their own. And with bright orange water spray guns, which they hand out to their guests. Because apart from the splashed water, seagulls probably find the color orange particularly unbearable. It will probably soon be the case for Venice tourists: Anyone who comes back without an orange water spray gun has not really been there.
