Lauterbach names four criteria for corona hotspots

There is a lot of guesswork about the successor regulations for the Corona rules. Stricter rules should apply in the so-called hotspots. But when does a region become a hotspot? The Federal Minister of Health is now proposing four criteria for this.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach wants to propose four criteria to the federal states for determining corona hotspots. “On Monday I will inform the health ministers of the federal states what I think are the criteria that the federal states can use to determine the hotspots,” said the SPD politician on Sunday on the Bild TV station, looking at the switch planned for the afternoon the Conference of Health Ministers (GMK).

This includes when planned interventions can no longer be carried out in hospitals due to Corona, emergency care is at risk, care falls below lower limits or patients have to be transferred to other hospitals. With these criteria, the countries should be able to implement the hotspot regulations. “And I appeal to the states to do it now,” Lauterbach continued.

Lauterbach rejected the demand by the Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) for a nationwide extension of the mask requirement. “Whether he proposes it or not, that’s completely irrelevant. It’s not legal,” said the SPD politician, but emphasized that he himself would have liked to have kept the mask requirement if it had been legally possible. However, he appealed to the federal states to do this in the hotspots and again called on the large supermarket chains to enforce the mask requirement in their branches nationwide by domiciliary rights. He expects companies to respond to his appeal on Monday.

The federal and state health ministers want to discuss the hotspot rule for stricter corona measures on Monday. There is disagreement in the state governments as to whether the legal requirements for identifying hotspots are currently met or not.
