The war in Ukraine is also an information war. A well-known American newspaper reports on poison attacks against participants in peace talks. An allegedly affected person speaks out.
In Ukraine, participants in negotiations to end the war with Russia have denied reports that they were poisoned.
All members of the negotiating groups are working normally, Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podoliak said, according to local media. “In the information sector there is a lot of speculation, different versions of conspiracies and elements of one or the other information game.”
The US newspaper Wall Street Journal reported that members of the delegations, including the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, were poisoned in early March. The article appeared ahead of renewed negotiations scheduled for Tuesday in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
The Bellingcat research team said it could confirm that three members of the delegation involved in the peace talks on the night of March 4, 2022 showed symptoms consistent with chemical weapon poisoning. A “victim” was Abramovich.
According to the “WSJ” report, hardliners in Moscow wanted to prevent the peace negotiations from being successful.
Rustem Umerow, who was mentioned as a victim in “WSJ”, wrote on Facebook in the morning that everything was fine with him. “I’m doing well. This is my answer to all the gossip that is spreading. Please do not trust any unverified information. We’re also in an information war.” Abramovich has also not made any public statements about a possible poison attack.
Denys Kireyev, a representative of the first Ukrainian delegation, was shot dead in unclear circumstances at the beginning of March. The first media reports said he was spying for Russia. He was later officially honored as a member of the Ukrainian military intelligence service.
