Stelzer is considering having to pay for corona tests from autumn

The corona vaccination, which offers protection, will remain free, “but the free tests will not be able to be sustained in this form in the long term,” he told the “Kleine Zeitung” (Wednesday edition). Like his Tyrolean counterpart Gnther Platter (VP), Stelzer is also pressing for “clarity from the Ministry of Health about the third vaccination”.

Stelzer confirmed that people in Upper Austria are not thinking of introducing compulsory vaccinations for certain professions – as in Lower Austria. If so, then it would have to be a federal decision, “that is the responsibility of the Minister of Health”, with country solutions you would “not make any great leaps” anyway.

“Also an economic question”

The obligation to pay for corona tests is “also an economic question”. In a federal state like Upper Austria you need an “unbelievable number of test stations”. When school starts again after the summer holidays, one will have to decide how to continue, said Stelzer.

As early as mid-July, Upper Austria called for a fee for corona tests. The President of the Medical Association, Peter Niedermoser, stated at the time that anyone can now be vaccinated free of charge with the vaccine of their choice. “In the end, it shouldn’t be the case that society has to pay for individuals’ unwillingness to vaccinate,” he noted.
