The Greens had already called for a reassessment of the situation in view of the advance of the Taliban.
The European Court of Human Rights has now stopped the planned deportation of an asylum seeker who had been rejected in Austria to Afghanistan.
The reason given by the ECHR on Tuesday was the increasingly tightened security situation in the country of origin. In the office of Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (VP) they wanted to deduce “no blanket ban for us” from the slogan at hand. The department would evaluate all cases before deportation. In the present individual case, the objection of the ECHR will now be considered. It is about a postponement until the end of August.
General reason?
The interpretation of the deserters and refugee counseling that advised the man is different. The decision concerns a specific individual case. What is special, however, is that the justification of the ECHR does not refer to it, but is formulated in general terms.
The Court also points out that many other EU countries have already stopped deportations to Afghanistan due to the questionable security situation in the country.
In addition to Nehammer, the German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) confirmed his intention to hold on to deportations to Afghanistan despite the advance of the radical Islamic Taliban and to “want to increase them significantly” again after Corona.
Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP), who is cured of a summer flu these days, also emphasized that Austria would “certainly continue to deport to Afghanistan”.
