The large number of people displaced from Ukraine raises new questions for the German labor market. Minister of Labor Heil now wants to discuss this with various interest groups.
At a summit meeting with employers and trade unions this Wednesday, Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil primarily wants to resolve practical issues relating to the labor market integration of Ukrainian refugees.
“We have already made sure that these people with the residence permit have the right to work,” said the SPD politician to the editorial network Germany (RND). “In order for this to actually be possible, very practical questions must now be solved quickly and pragmatically.”
For example, access to language courses, the recognition of professional qualifications and further training will be discussed. And: “Since a lot of women with children are coming to us at the moment, it’s about reliable childcare.”
Bamf: Sufficient opportunities for language courses
In addition to DGB boss Reiner Hoffmann, employers’ president Rainer Dulger and Chamber of Industry and Commerce President Peter Adrian, the head of the Federal Employment Agency, Detlef Scheele, and representatives of the federal states have also been invited to the meeting.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) sees sufficient opportunities for refugees from Ukraine to take part in language and integration courses, as a spokesman for the RND said. Since the financial support from the Federal Office depends on the number of participants, the providers could accept more participants and offer more courses at any time without prior consultation with the Federal Office.
“If demand increases, the supply will increase without a longer lead time or planning effort being necessary.” The managing director of the professional association for integration and professional language courses, Christiane Carstensen, made a similar statement to the RND.
