Atrocities: Russia denies responsibility for Bucha massacre

Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy was stunned by the cruel acts against civilians in the Ukrainian Bucha. Meanwhile, Russia denies any guilt.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russian troops of genocide over atrocities against civilians.

“It is indeed genocide,” Selenskyj told the US broadcaster CBS on Sunday, according to the translator, in response to a question from the moderator. «We are citizens of Ukraine and do not want to be subjected to the policy of the Russian Federation. And that is why we are being destroyed and wiped out. And that is happening in Europe in the 21st century.” Not only the Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also the Russian military responsible for atrocities should be held accountable on the basis of the applicable law.

After the withdrawal of Russian troops from the northwest of the Ukrainian capital, shots of corpses on the streets of Bucha caused international horror.

Russia denies responsibility for massacre

Meanwhile, Russia denied responsibility for the massacre of civilians in Bucha. “During the period when the settlement was under the control of the Russian armed forces, not a single resident suffered from any acts of violence,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The Russian soldiers left the Kiev suburb last Wednesday.

Pictures from Butscha had caused horror worldwide on Sunday. Photos and videos show the bodies of dead civilians lying in the middle of the street. The Ukrainian side blames Russian soldiers who occupied the small town until recently. The Russian Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, spoke in the Telegram service about a “planned media campaign” and gave the impression that the Ukrainian army could have killed the civilians themselves by shelling them. There was no evidence for this.

The authorities in Moscow also indicated that the recordings could be fake – for example because one of the people lying on the side of the road is said to be moving his hand in a video recording. However, this is wrong. No hand movement can be seen in the corresponding video. According to consistent media reports, the bodies are lying there. In other photos taken on the same street by press photographers, among others, the corpses lie in exactly the same place.

dismay at the violence

Selenskyj showed disbelief at the violence. “When we find people with their hands tied behind their backs and they’ve been beheaded, I don’t understand.” It is not enough for the “criminals” to kill children, they would also torture them.

Zelenskyy said his duty as president is still to negotiate with Putin. “There is no other way than dialogue if we don’t want hundreds of thousands, millions, to die.” He called for the withdrawal of all Russian troops behind the borders that existed before the February invasion.
