Crime: A good 400 crimes related to the Ukraine war

Property damage, insults, bodily harm: In Germany, people with a Russian or Ukrainian background are victims of crime.

Since the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, people from both countries have become victims of war-related crimes in Germany in more than 400 cases.

Among 308 anti-Russian crimes, 15 were acts of violence, as Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. According to her, Ukrainians are also being attacked more and more frequently: 109 anti-Ukrainian crimes were registered, 13 of them violent crimes. The spectrum ranges from primarily property damage to insults and threats to bodily harm.

In the dispute between the federal, state and local governments over the cost of caring for hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine, Faeser was “very confident” that the prime ministers’ conference on April 7 would find a compromise to support the local authorities. The federal government offered to take refugees into basic security after three months, which the federal government pays for. “We offered it because it makes sense.” Because even asylum seekers would receive basic security after a few months.
