Cannabis legalization: The debate in the “today important” podcast

Should smoking weed be legal? Yes, thinks the journalist Kerstin Herrkind. In an argument with “Today important” host Michel Abdollahi, she argues why a cannabis ban does not help in her view.

During the election campaign, the legalization of cannabis was discussed again and again. Now the traffic light coalition has even decided to realign drug and addiction policies. There is still a long way to go before the legal joint. But it could be worth it, says journalist and author Kerstin Herrnkind: “If cannabis is legalized, the black market may not collapse completely, but it will collapse significantly.” In addition, the quality of the “substance” would be significantly better and we would have fewer drug-related deaths.

In the book “Hunting the Dragon” Kerstin writes about her deceased brother’s drug history. Despite or because of her personal experience, she is in favor of legalizing cannabis. “If you take a drug that’s legal and you realize you’re having difficulties, then the inhibition threshold is simply lower to get help, because you’re not doing anything bad,” she says in episode 250 of the podcast “important today”.
