Andrij Melnyk, Ukrainian Ambassador in Germany, hands out again vigorously. This time he buttoned Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer.
The Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, has sharply criticized Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) for his Russia course.
Kretschmer does not want to deliver tanks to Ukraine and prevent a gas embargo, Melnyk wrote on Twitter to the CDU politician. «But keep cuddling with your pal Putin. Your shameless pandering to this war criminal remains an eternal shame.”
At an event organized by the news magazine Der Spiegel yesterday evening, Kretschmer warned that Germany should not become a war party. In view of the war, one cannot imagine it at the moment, but there must be some kind of cooperation with Russia again. “It has to be because everything else can be even more dangerous for us, even more dramatic.” Economic ties with Russia remain important, even if it is a misconception that trade creates a democracy in Russia.
During the panel discussion, Kretschmer was asked about the Ukrainian ambassador’s harsh criticism of German politicians – even before Melnyk had turned to him. The Prime Minister said that he found the type of criticism “disturbing on many points”. It’s not always appropriate. But the country is fighting for survival. “If we put ourselves in the role of the Ukrainian president or the ambassador for a few seconds, you can no longer blame him,” said Kretschmer.
