Should there be even more severe economic sanctions against Russia? According to a survey, more than 70 percent in Germany are in favor of it.
In view of the Ukraine war, a large majority of Germans are in favor of stricter economic sanctions against Russia, according to a survey.
According to the ZDF “Politbarometer”, 77 percent of those surveyed think that further tightening is right, while 18 percent do not. This emerges from the survey published by the research group Wahlen.
However, most respondents (54 percent) only support an import ban for Russian energy when the supply in Germany is otherwise secured. Only 28 percent are in favor of an immediate halt to imports, even if this should lead to supply problems in Germany. 14 percent want Germany to continue buying gas and oil from Russia.
In a survey by Infratest dimap for the ARD “Deutschlandtrend” published the day before, 50 percent of those questioned said they would support an immediate stop to imports of Russian natural gas and oil, even if this would lead to bottlenecks and rising energy prices.
The fear of an escalation of the Ukraine war has decreased slightly among the Germans. According to the “Politbarometer”, 69 percent of those surveyed expressed concern that there would be an even bigger war in Europe. In March it was still 75 percent. On the other hand, 30 percent do not fear it.
