Covid-19: 60 percent of the clinics have to postpone operations

The hospitals continue to struggle with the corona pandemic. In view of the tense situation, the Medical Association sharply criticizes the corona policy of the federal and state governments.

According to the Association of Senior Hospital Doctors (VLK), operations in six out of ten hospitals in Germany still have to be postponed due to the corona pandemic.

“In 60 percent of the houses, planned interventions have to be postponed, in six out of ten clinics the nursing staff lower limits are undercut,” said the President of the Association of Senior Hospital Doctors (VLK), Michael Weber, the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. In three out of ten clinics, patients would have to be transferred to other clinics, including from large clinics.

According to the newspaper, the VLK surveyed its members across Germany. In the survey, 20 percent of senior hospital doctors said that emergency care was at risk. A good ten percent of the beds in general and intensive care units are still occupied by patients with a corona infection.

In view of the tense situation, the VLK sharply criticized the corona policy of the federal and state governments. “The pandemic is not over yet, and the increasing political dispute is endangering the supply situation,” Weber told the newspaper. From the perspective of the clinics, the hotspot criteria are met in many places, so that containment measures must be imposed.
