British Prime Minister Johnson, EU Commission President von der Leyen and Austria’s Chancellor Nehammer have already been to Kyiv. The voices that Chancellor Scholz is also getting an idea on the spot are getting louder.
The CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter has called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to travel to Ukraine like other Western politicians.
“I would like our Chancellor to follow this example and get an idea on the spot,” said the Union’s chairman in the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee to the “Handelsblatt”. “Germany should fulfill its important role as a hinge in Europe and lead the way in supporting Ukraine, dealing with the crisis and taking the necessary measures that will hopefully lead to the end of the war.”
In the past few days, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer traveled to Kyiv.
