Despite numerous setbacks for Russian troops in the war of aggression against Ukraine, Kremlin chief Putin remains confident of victory. During an appearance at a spaceport, he emphasizes that the goals of the “special operation” have been achieved.
Shortly before the expected major offensive in eastern Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin was confident of victory despite numerous setbacks in the almost seven-week war.
The goals of the “special operation” would be achieved, Putin said on Tuesday in the eastern Russian city of Blagoveshchensk. “There is no doubt about that.”
The Russian President also once again defended his decision to invade Ukraine almost seven weeks ago as having no alternative. The operation serves to ensure Russian security: “We had no other choice,” said Putin. The conflict with the “anti-Russian forces in Ukraine” was only a matter of time. The West sees this as just a pretext for aggressive war.
Putin: Sanctions cannot isolate Russia
Putin also stressed that Russia does not want to isolate itself from the rest of the world. According to Putin, the sanctions with which the West reacted to the Russian invasion cannot isolate Russia. Moscow will continue to expand its technical and technological potential – especially in space, he said.
Putin flew with Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko to visit the spaceport. The Russian army uses Belarus as a staging area against Ukraine and allegedly also launches airstrikes from there.
