The aim was apparently to cause civil war-like conditions: Investigators took action against members of several Telegram groups because of attack plans and a planned kidnapping of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.
Nationwide, investigators have raided members of several Telegram groups because of attack plans and the planned kidnapping of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach. Previously reported about it. The public prosecutor’s office in Koblenz is investigating twelve men and women. They are said to have planned a serious act of violence endangering the state and other crimes. The accused had planned to destroy power supply facilities in order to cause a longer-lasting nationwide power outage that would cause civil war-like conditions, as announced in a statement. They are also accused of violations of the Weapons and War Weapons Control Act.
According to the investigators, the accused group wanted to use this chaos to overthrow the democratic system in Germany and take over the government. In addition, it was planned to kidnap Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach and “switch off” his bodyguards. The Attorney General only writes: “The kidnapping of well-known public figures was also part of the plans.”
Buying a gun was the investigators’ trap
The twelve accused are said to have organized themselves into several right-wing extremist Telegram chat groups, including groups called “United Patriots” and “Active Patriots”. Chat histories should be available in “Report Mainz”. Fantasies about assassination attempts on politicians and instructions on how to make poisons are also said to have been exchanged.
As “Report Mainz” further reports, the plans have become more concrete in the past few days. The accused wanted to buy weapons, mines and protective equipment for tens of thousands of euros. A first handover should take place this week in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in Rhineland-Palatinate. However, the offer was a case of the investigators. The gun buyer was arrested, as were two other men in Lower Saxony and Brandenburg.
According to the report, the three men are listed as the main suspects, as is another person who is currently abroad. They are said to have organized the arms purchases and the money. Another suspect was arrested on Wednesday. They are to be presented to the investigating judge on Thursday.
Investigators: Group consists of Corona opponents and Reich citizens
More than houses and apartments were searched in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Data carriers, computers and mobile phones were seized, as were weapons (including 14 long guns and seven short guns and a Kalashnikov), ammunition, cash in the amount of 8,900 euros, numerous gold bars and silver coins and foreign currency worth over 10,000 euros, according to the investigators. Fake vaccination cards and fake test certificates were also seized.
According to the Attorney General, the investigations have been ongoing since September 2021. The people can be assigned to the Corona protest scene and the Reich Citizens’ Movement. Some are already known to the police. The suspects are German nationals aged 55, 54, 50, 42 and 41, according to the investigators in their statement.
