War in Ukraine: Russia reports attack on missile factory near Kyiv

Russia wants to concentrate on the east of the country in the Ukraine war, it said. Moscow is now reporting attacks not far from the capital Kyiv. Initially, there was no confirmation from the Ukrainian side.

According to the Russian army, it has attacked a missile factory near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, said Kalibr rockets were fired at the “Visar” factory, almost five kilometers southwest of the outskirts of the city, on Friday night. There was initially no confirmation from the Ukrainian side. According to media reports, several violent explosions could be heard in Kyiv during the night. The “Wisar” factory is said to have manufactured missiles for the S-300 anti-aircraft system.

Moscow once again announced that it intends to step up its attacks on Kyiv if Ukrainian troops carry out attacks or “acts of sabotage” on Russian territory. Konashenkov had already made such a threat a few days ago.

In the past few weeks, Moscow has repeatedly complained about alleged attacks by Ukrainian troops on Russian areas near the border. Around the beginning of April there was an air raid on an oil storage facility in the city of Belgorod. At the time, there was neither confirmation nor denial from Ukraine.

Russia launched a war of aggression against its neighbor on February 24. In the past few weeks, Russian troops have withdrawn from the region around Kyiv to concentrate on attacks in eastern Ukraine.
