A 77 square meter apartment, three cars and a trailer: the Kremlin has published the Russian President’s assets and official earnings. Critics suspect that Putin is many times richer.
According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin earned 10.2 million rubles (around 114,000 euros) last year.
The Office of the President published on Friday the official earnings of the 69-year-old, who has been in power in Moscow for more than two decades. In addition, a 77 square meter apartment, three cars and a car trailer were listed as belonging to the Kremlin boss. Critics suspect that Putin is in fact many times richer. Corruption has repeatedly been accused of his apparatus of power.
Message from the Kremlin causes ridicule
The Kremlin’s announcement caused a lot of ridicule on the Internet. Some users referred to research by the imprisoned Kremlin opponent Alexej Navalny, who has repeatedly uncovered corruption scandals. Last year, Navalny’s team assigned Putin a giant palace on the Black Sea coast in a two-hour film and revealed disguised ownership. At the time, the Kremlin called it “nonsense” and a “lie”.
According to the information that has now been published, Putin was by no means the Russian politician with the highest income last year. Trade Minister Denis Manturov’s earnings were reported at 704.7 million rubles ($8.1 million). In the Kremlin, Putin’s special representative Vladimir Medinsky, who is currently leading the peace negotiations with Ukraine for the Russian side, is said to have earned the most with 106.7 million rubles (1.2 million euros).
