So far, the US government has held back with an assessment, but now it announces the reason for the sinking of the Russian ship Moskva. The statement supports information from Kyiv.
The US government has supported information from Kyiv that the sunken Russian warship “Moskva” (“Moscow”) was the target of Ukrainian missiles.
“We can confirm that the Russian ship Moskva was hit by two Ukrainian Neptun missiles,” a senior Defense Department official said in Washington on Friday. On Thursday, the ministry was still reluctant to make an assessment.
Flagship sank on Thursday
The “Moskva” – flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet – sank on Thursday. Kyiv announced that the missile cruiser had been hit by two Neptun missiles the night before. The Russian side, on the other hand, stated that the ship was damaged by the detonation of ammunition on board and then sank while being towed in stormy seas.
