War of aggression in Ukraine: Dependent on Mariupol: Selenskyj threatens to end negotiations

President Zelenskyy is worried about soldiers in Mariupol. Should they be killed, the already difficult peace negotiations could soon be ended by the Ukrainian side.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has threatened Russia with an end to peace talks if Ukrainian militants are killed in the port city of Mariupol.

“The destruction of our guys in Mariupol, what they are doing right now (…), could put an end to any form of negotiations,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with local Internet media published on Saturday.

The Russian troops behaved differently towards the various Ukrainian units. “There are soldiers there who absolutely hate them, and I don’t think they will let them live,” said the Ukrainian head of state, referring to the Azov regiment, which is dominated by nationalists.

Ukrainian fighters entrench themselves in the steelworks

“We are in contact with the guys in the closed plant,” Zelenskyy said. The remaining Ukrainian fighters have entrenched themselves in the Azovstal steel works. After the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, Mariupol was completely surrounded by Russian troops in early March. Russia’s army claims to have captured most of the city on the Azov Sea.

In addition, Zelenskyj once again rejected the cession of territory demanded by Moscow. “We don’t trade with territories and with our people,” said the 44-year-old. However, the negotiations, which a Russian and a Ukrainian delegation began shortly after the war began, are necessary to defend the Ukrainian state and end the fighting.

Zelenskyj: The world must be concerned about nuclear weapons

In addition, Zelenskyj warned against a Russian use of nuclear bombs. “Not only me – the whole world, all countries must be concerned, because it can not be real information, but it can be the truth,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with CNN.

Zelenskyy responded to statements by CIA chief Bill Burns. In view of the military setbacks for Russia in Ukraine, the head of the US foreign intelligence service had emphasized that the possible threat of a Russian use of tactical nuclear bombs should not be taken lightly.

In the interview excerpt published by the US broadcaster on Saturday, Zelenskyy said in English that human lives are worth nothing to Russia. With regard to chemical weapons, however, it is now important not to be afraid, but instead to be ready. “But this is not a question for Ukraine, not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world, I think,” Zelenskyy continued. The entire interview was scheduled to air on Sunday.

Concerns about Moscow’s nuclear weapons plans are growing

Tactical nuclear weapons or nuclear battlefield weapons are understood to be nuclear weapons whose radius of action and explosive power is significantly lower than strategic nuclear weapons that can be used beyond a continent.

Concerns in the West about Moscow’s possible nuclear weapons plans increased after Putin had Russian deterrent weapons put on high alert at the start of the war in Ukraine. Russia also counts its nuclear bombs among these weapons.
