Population: Association of towns and municipalities for a new start in civil protection

According to the Association of Towns and Municipalities, future challenges will require, among other things, a functioning alarm system, better fire brigade equipment and new concepts for shelters.

In view of the possible dangers of war, cyber threats and climate change, the Association of Towns and Municipalities is calling for a “complete restart” in civil disaster control and civil protection.

A functioning alarm system, better equipment for the fire brigade and the stocking of food, medicines and equipment such as emergency power generators for clinics are necessary, said managing director Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers of the Funke media group. New concepts for shelters would also have to be developed.

At the same time, Landsberg called on citizens to make more provision for themselves. The state “cannot always be efficient everywhere, even in emergency situations,” he said. That’s why it’s important to keep stocks for 14 days, for example.

At the same time, the Association of Towns and Municipalities called for “more planning and a sense of reality” when accepting people from Ukraine. An offensive to create additional places in day-care centers and schools is essential, as the number of displaced children continues to rise. The chief executive of the Association of Towns and Municipalities demanded that lateral entrants, including those from the Ukrainian community, should quickly get a perspective as a teacher or educator.
