It got him too – Italy’s Prime Minister Draghi tested positive for the corona virus. His planned trip to Africa is now falling flat.
Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi has been infected with the corona virus. The 74-year-old received a positive test result for Covid-19 and no symptoms of the disease, the Italian government said.
The non-party Prime Minister of the multi-party government will therefore not travel to the African countries of Angola and the Republic of Congo this week as planned, it said.
Draghi wanted to negotiate with the governments of the countries about gas deliveries, since Italy wants to become independent of Russian gas, which it obtains in large parts from there, because of the war in Ukraine. According to the government, Italy will be represented on the trip by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and Minister for Ecological Conversion Roberto Cingolani.
