Conflicts: Iran’s president warns Israel against military action

Words of warning from Tehran to Tel Aviv: According to Iranian President Raisi, his country will respond militarily if Israel takes the slightest step.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has warned Israel against military action against his country and threatened counterattacks.

“At the smallest step (Israel), the center of the Zionist regime (Israel) will become the target of our armed forces,” Raisi said on the occasion of the annual Army Day in Tehran. According to state broadcaster IRIB, the Iranian armed and security forces are informed about all of Israel’s activities against Iran and are therefore well prepared for all eventualities.

Iran regards Israel as its arch-enemy and suspects Israeli secret services, for example, of being behind cyber attacks on nuclear facilities. There have always been Iranian politicians and clerics who have questioned Israel’s existence. The conflict between the two countries reached its climax during the presidency of hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (2005-2013), when he spoke of Israel’s “eradication”. Ahmadinejad also questioned the historical dimensions of the Holocaust during World War II and hosted a 2006 conference of Holocaust deniers in Tehran.

Israel currently sees its greatest existential threat in the Iranian nuclear and missile program. The West fears that Iranian medium-range missiles with a range of 1200 kilometers could theoretically hit any point in Israel and that Iran could equip the missiles with nuclear weapons. The leadership in Tehran rejects these accusations and calls Israel’s Middle East policy and its nuclear arsenal the only real danger in the region.
