Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia: Ukraine: Wüst sees SPD as “sustainable Putin problem”

Criticism of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his party’s Ukraine policy is growing louder. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst also condemned the SPD’s “procrastination course”.

North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has sharply criticized the behavior of the SPD and Chancellor Olaf Scholz in connection with the Ukraine war.

“The SPD clearly has a sustained problem with Putin,” Wüst told the Rheinische Post, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The fact that the past is too close seems to paralyze the Social Democrats to this day, and they should finally take a clear stand against the aggressor Russia,” said Wüst.

“With the slowed and belated support of Ukraine, the SPD isolates Germany more and more in Europe from day to day. Germany has never been so isolated and apathetic in an international crisis, »said Wüst. «The Greens and the FDP are right: the procrastination of the SPD and the chancellor must come to an end, Ukraine must not be left in the lurch. This also applies to military support, »said Wüst. “A stronger defense of Ukraine against Russian aggression also strengthens Germany’s security and prevents further escalation between Russia and NATO. That’s how we secure peace.”

Union politicians, but also representatives of the traffic light parties of the Greens and FDP had repeatedly accused Chancellor Scholz (SPD) of hesitating in the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine.
