The so-called “Mallorca affair” surrounding ex-Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser is taking a turn: an SPD employee apparently used questionable means to look for photos of the controversial party.
In the course of the so-called “Mallorca affair”, an employee of the SPD MP Sarah Philipp tried to spy on the Instagram account of the 16-year-old daughter of the then Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser (CDU).
Philipp confirmed research by the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” to the German Press Agency. According to the SPD politician, she had no knowledge of the process and apologized to Heinen-Esser and her daughter.
As a screenshot from the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” shows, the employee initially sent a contact request to Heinen-Esser’s daughter from Sarah Philipp’s Instagram account on the afternoon of April 6, and three minutes later also from his own account. Background: The 16-year-old’s Instagram channel can only be viewed by confirmed contacts. Philipp confirmed to the dpa that the action was directly related to the “Mallorca affair”.
According to this, on April 6 there were the first rumors in the state parliament “about an alleged birthday party for Ms. Heinen-Esser and other members of the government”. The student employee made the contact requests out of “curiosity”. In fact, the teenager was also in Mallorca – as Heinen-Esser had previously said publicly. The employee apparently wanted to look for photos of the birthday party.
According to his own statements, Philipp only found out about the process on Thursday through an inquiry from the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”. She “made it clear to her employee that his behavior is unacceptable.” The employee is aware of his mistake and regrets it.
A few hours after trying to see the daughter’s photos, Ursula Heinen-Esser had confirmed the birthday party for her husband herself: Also Minister of Construction Ina Scharrenbach (CDU), Minister for Europe Stephan Holthoff-Pförtner (CDU) and the then Secretary of State Serap Güler (CDU ) were there. The next day, April 7, Heinen-Esser resigned as Minister.
This Friday, Heinen-Esser is to be interrogated again in the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (PUA) on the flood disaster. It should be about your stay in Mallorca. The CDU could turn the tables. MP Matthias Kerkhoff told the “Stadt-Anzeiger”: “Spying on children is unacceptable and an absolute crossing of borders. Families must be strictly taboo in political debates, even during election campaigns.” SPD leader Thomas Kutschaty must comment “immediately” on his party’s methods.
