In Saarland, the CDU failed in March in the first state election after losing the federal election. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the CDU and SPD are currently on an equal footing.
Three weeks before the state elections, the CDU and SPD in North Rhine-Westphalia are still almost level, according to an opinion poll.
If a new state parliament were elected this Sunday, the CDU would get 31 percent and the SPD 30 percent. The WDR reported this on Sunday on the website. According to the NRW trend of the opinion research institute Infratest dimap, the values of the CDU with Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst and the SPD with challenger Thomas Kutschaty remained unchanged compared to the survey published three weeks earlier. The WDR magazine “Westpol” commissioned the survey conducted from April 19th to 21st. In other polls, too, the CDU and SPD are neck and neck.
In the WDR survey, the Greens were able to increase slightly and would continue to be the third strongest force with 16 percent (+1). The FDP, currently the coalition partner of the CDU, would remain unchanged at 8 percent. The AfD would come to 7 percent. The left would lose ground and, with 3 percent (-1), would miss the return to the state parliament.
A new edition of the governing coalition of CDU and FDP would not be possible with this outcome. Even for red-green it would just not be enough. According to WDR, in addition to a CDU-led grand coalition, a black-green alliance and a Jamaica alliance of CDU, Greens and FDP would also be possible. As in the federal government, the SPD could form a traffic light coalition with the Greens and the FDP.
