Who is a patriot and who is a traitor? This question is high on the political agenda in Russia. It even got to the point where Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov had a dispute over who should be considered a patriot. The hunt for alleged nation traitors is on. The West is trying to divide Russian society, Vladimir Putin explains over and over again.
“They will try to rely on the fifth column, on traitors, on those who earn money here with us but live there, and not even necessarily in the geographical sense of the word, but in the sense of their world of thought, their slave consciousness,” the head of state ranted at a meeting of government officials. “Many of these people are naturally mentally located there and not here, not with our people, not in Russia.”
In the pot of the so-called fifth column, Putin wants all members of the opposition, critics, pacifists and opponents of the war to be included. In fact, however, he would have to look around among the offspring of his government members and Duma deputies. While Kremlin propaganda tells the Russian population of Russia’s grandeur and superiority, the offspring of the political elite live in the “rotting” or “rotting” West, as state propaganda keeps complaining. Apparently, the Kremlin children don’t want to know anything about the blessings of the “best medicine,” the “best universities,” and the “special Russian civilization.” They’d rather squander taxpayers’ money in London, New York or Paris.
Paris instead of Russia
For example, the daughter of Dmitry Peskov. Until recently, Elizaveta Peskova led a jet-set life between London and the French Riviera. On Instagram, she happily and uninhibitedly shared glamor pics from her life of luxury – until she too was put on the sanctions list. With Lisa (short for Elizaveta), the measure met with complete incomprehension: “I’m upset because I would like to travel and love other cultures,” she wrote. It is “strange to impose sanctions on a person who is 24 years old and has nothing to do with the situation,” she claimed. But she has long since followed in her father’s footsteps. On paper, at least, she’s a communications firm founder and director of a historical foundation with a master’s degree in international relations. Of course, she also studied abroad, in Paris.
While studying marketing in the French capital, Lisa once lamented that life in Paris could be so nice if it weren’t for all the migrants. “‘It’s not Paris anymore,’ Trump said, and I’m more and more inclined to agree with him, even though I love this beautiful city,” she wrote at the time.
Peskov’s daughter is far from the only one who prefers life in the West to Russia. We have put together just a few examples. The life of the Kremlin offspring is only too good a reminder of the hypocrisy and double standards of their parents.
