Now of all times: The Kiel Prime Minister Daniel Günther has been infected with the corona virus. As a result, he has to stay at home almost two weeks before the state election.
In the hot phase of the state election campaign in Schleswig-Holstein, Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) tested positive for the corona virus.
As the State Chancellery announced on Monday, a routine self-test late on Sunday afternoon was initially positive. A PCR test on Monday morning also had a positive result. The 48-year-old is in domestic isolation, symptom-free and is temporarily continuing official business from home in Eckernförde.
Due to numerous contacts, Günther has tested himself several times a day in the past few weeks in order to ensure the greatest possible safety, it was said. A self-test on Sunday morning was still negative. In Schleswig-Holstein, the state parliament will be re-elected on May 8th.
TV debate from isolation
Günther had recently completed numerous election campaign dates with many encounters. On Sunday he was also in Hamburg in the sold-out Barclays Arena with 13,200 spectators when THW Kiel won the final of the DHB Cup against SC Magdeburg. On Friday in Rendsburg in the boxing ring at the so-called political boxing in front of hundreds of spectators he fought a hard verbal exchange with the other top candidates Thomas Losse-Müller (SPD), Monika Heinold (Greens) and Bernd Buchholz (FDP). And the day before, Günther hosted a conference of prime ministers of the northern German states in Kiel. The heads of government conferred for hours, ate lunch together and visited a shipyard.
A trill with Günther, Losse-Müller and Heinold is planned for this Tuesday evening on NDR television, in which Günther cannot be there live. “We’ll turn him on,” said an NDR spokesman for the German Press Agency. The other parties agree. According to the most recent survey by Infratest dimap for the state election, the CDU is clearly ahead with 38 percent. They are followed by the SPD with 20, the Greens with 16 and the FDP with 9 percent.
