The FDP health expert Andrew Ullmann does not consider compulsory vaccination for hospital staff to be necessary given the high vaccination rate. The head of the hospital company is also demanding the suspension of the obligation.
According to the FDP health expert Andrew Ullmann, the vaccination requirement for staff in clinics and nursing homes can be omitted if the vaccination rate is very high.
Then the continuation of a facility-related vaccination requirement can be dispensed with, said the FDP politician of the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. This compulsory vaccination was introduced during the Delta variant. “The protection against transmission of the corona virus was significantly higher with this variant,” argued the FDP politician. The vaccination recommendation must of course be maintained.
A hearing of experts on the subject will take place in the Bundestag Health Committee on Wednesday. The head of the German Hospital Society, Gerald Gass, reiterated the demand in the newspaper to waive the obligation to vaccinate the staff. “We call for the immediate suspension,” said Gass. The employees in the hospitals cannot be explained why they are banned from working if they are not vaccinated, while the majority of their Covid patients are not vaccinated.
Bavaria’s Health Minister Klaus Holetschek emphasized: “A unilateral obligation on the part of the employees is not only unfair, in my opinion it is also not proportionate.” The CSU politician told the “Augsburger Allgemeine” that it was only ever intended as a first step towards general compulsory vaccination.
A cross-party draft for a general obligation to vaccinate clearly failed in the Bundestag at the beginning of April. Vaccination has been compulsory for employees in facilities for groups that need special protection, such as clinics and nursing homes, since mid-March.
