Ukraine must “eventually a major counter-offensive” drive, says military expert Carlo Masala. That could be the case as early as next month.
Military expert Carlo Masala expects the Ukrainian armed forces to launch an offensive next month. in the star-Podcast “Ukraine – the situation” Masala said on Friday that the Russian units were slowly advancing. “That cannot be tolerable for Ukraine in the long run”said the politics professor at the Bundeswehr University in Munich.
Ukraine must “at some point launch a major counter-offensive” and reclaim territory. Only in this way can a political solution be possible. Because pushing back the invading troops “one of the prerequisites for negotiations about a solution to the conflict ever being able to take place”.
Military Expert Masala: “This is the third wave”
The task of the Ukrainians is now “Training, reorganization, and then attempting major counteroffensives using western weapons”. Ukraine needs time for this. June is the time for the offensive “quite realistic”.

Masala pointed out that ever heavier weapon systems were being delivered to Ukraine. “This is the third wave”, he said. First, light weapons were brought to the Ukraine, then old systems of Soviet design, now increasingly modern western weapons. Of course, the Russians would try to prevent this device from getting to the front – for example by bombing railway lines. However, they could not completely prevent the deliveries. “Bombing hinders some, but not all, the flow of arms into Ukraine”he said.
