Ukrainian and Polish demonstrators chant “murderer” during a visit to the cemetery by the Russian ambassador to Poland. Then they pour red liquid over the diplomat.
In Poland, protesters sprayed red liquid on Russia’s ambassadors and prevented them from laying flowers in a cemetery for Soviet soldiers.
When the delegation led by the Russian ambassador Sergei Andreyev appeared at the Warsaw mausoleum cemetery, numerous Ukrainian and Polish demonstrators greeted them with shouts of “murderers” and “fascists”, the PAP news agency reported. Andreev was therefore doused with a red substance.
The Ambassador and the delegation then returned to their official cars.
Remains of more than 20,000 soldiers
On May 9th, Russia commemorates Victory Day over Nazi Germany. The Mausoleum Cemetery in Warsaw was laid out a few years after the end of World War II and has the character of a large park. The remains of more than 20,000 soldiers who fell in 1944 and 1945 are buried there.
Poland has taken in more than 3.2 million refugees from its eastern neighbor since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine began on February 24.
