Putin delivers speech on victory over Nazi Germany – and blames West

Watch the video: Putin accuses the West of wanting to attack Russia.

STORY: Russian President Vladimir Putin justified the attack on Ukraine by saying that the West was “preparing to invade our country, including Crimea”. Enemies of Russia are using terrorists to harm Russia, Putin said Monday while inspecting a military parade in Moscow’s Red Square during celebrations marking the Day of Victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. He spoke again of a “special operation” in neighboring Ukraine. He did not announce general mobilization or the use of new weapon systems. In the run-up to the speech, there was speculation that Putin could announce such a step. Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24. Since then, a war has been raging there in which tens of thousands of people have died. Putin announced aid for the children and families of fallen soldiers. Once again he placed the Russian invasion in a direct connection with the fight against National Socialism. He shouted to the deployed soldiers that they were now fighting for Russia’s security. He specifically mentioned units coming to the Donbass front in eastern Ukraine. The West has not reacted to Russian security interests for years. NATO poses a threat on the borders with Russia.
