Report: Secretary of Defense Lambrecht took son in Air Force helicopter

It’s a hot time for defense ministers right now. Nevertheless, the German Minister Christine Lambrecht flew on a short holiday over Easter – and took her son with her in the government plane.

Even the timing of the trip was unfavorable for German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht: while the Russian war of aggression was raging in Ukraine and the delivery of heavy weapons was being hotly debated in Germany, the SPD woman traveled to Sylt over Easter. Now there is also a report that she also took her son on the mixed business and holiday trip.

Specifically: Lambrecht flew with the government helicopter on April 13 to Ladelund in northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein). There, on Thursday, April 14, she first visited Bundeswehr troops at Battalion Electronic Warfare 911 in Stadum and Bramstedtlund. After that, according to “Business Insider”, we continued by car and with bodyguards in the direction of Sylt for a short vacation. She stayed on Sylt for several days until Tuesday, April 19th.

Documented by selfie: Minister’s son flew on vacation in a Bundeswehr machine

Always there: her son Alexander (21). This is known because he took a selfie in the government machine and uploaded it to his Instagram account. Other trips in official government planes are well documented on his Instagram account by “Business Insider”.

These family outings are not strictly forbidden: government aircraft may actually only be used by the Federal President, Chancellor, Ministers, the Presidents of the Bundestag and Bundesrat and a few other officials, but guests are allowed on board, but then have to pay 30 percent of the Lufthansa normal fare – still a bargain, because according to “Business Insider” 5,300 euros are due per hour of flight.

According to the Ministry of Defence, Christine Lambrecht personally paid for Alexander. Nevertheless, the timing of a war in Europe is unwise, at least politically. The Lambrecht family probably sees it that way: After the report, the photos from Alexander Lambrecht’s account first disappeared. The account can now only be viewed by followers.
