In the face of increasing repression by the Taliban, the Greens are insisting on forced acceptance of people from Afghanistan in Germany.
The humanitarian admission program agreed in the coalition agreement for those persecuted by the Taliban and former local staff, i.e. employees of foreign organizations, must be implemented quickly, Green Party leader Ricarda Lang told the German Press Agency in Berlin. In this way, women and girls from Afghanistan should also be enabled in larger numbers to “live in freedom and self-determination”.
The situation for women in the country is becoming increasingly dramatic, Lang said. With the latest guidelines from the radical Islamist Taliban, according to which women must cover themselves completely in public, and with new requirements for their freedom of movement, “the worst fears would come true”. Like the previous one, the current Taliban regime is “permeated by hatred of women and is in no way moderate”.
Women and girls are being deprived of basic human rights, Lang stressed. Freedom of movement, the right to education and the right to work are already massively curtailed for women and girls in Afghanistan or no longer exist. “This development shows once again that the international community and Germany must not forget the people in the country and must comply with their obligations.”
The federal government is aware of its responsibility, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Interior on request. “Urgent cases of particularly vulnerable Afghans cannot wait. The federal government has therefore decided to create opportunities to quickly enable admissions for urgent cases in individual cases. At the same time, the government is working flat out to create a federal humanitarian admission program for Afghanistan.
