Suspicion of Islamism: knife attack in train: five passengers and the perpetrator injured

On a train near Aachen, a man stabs passengers “indiscriminately and arbitrarily”. Several people are injured. The perpetrator was overpowered by police officers and fellow passengers.

After the knife attack in a regional train near Aachen, the investigators are examining an Islamist background. This was announced by NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU). The perpetrator is a 31-year-old man who was born in Iraq.

A total of six people were injured, including the perpetrator. The 31-year-old man, who was born in Iraq, stabbed passengers “indiscriminately and arbitrarily”, and said Reul said the victim and the perpetrator had no relationship to each other. The victims suffered lacerations, one a stab wound. Four travelers were taken to a hospital, their lives were not in danger.

NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) reacted with horror to the knife attack. It was “a cruel act that could be stopped in an act of enormous courage,” said Reul in Düsseldorf. Accordingly, the perpetrator had been overpowered by a federal police officer and two other passengers.
