Hundreds of other Ukrainian fighters from the besieged Mariupol steel mill have surrendered, according to Russian sources. The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Wednesday that 694 soldiers had turned themselves in over the past 24 hours. And since Monday, a total of 959 fighters who had holed up in the Azovstal plant for weeks had surrendered, including 80 injured, 51 of whom needed medical help. They were transferred to a hospital about 40 km east of Mariupol, which is in Russian-held territory. According to a media report, pro-Russian separatists said that the Ukrainian fighters should be brought to justice. The fate of these fighters will then be decided there, says the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Puschilin, according to a local media outlet. According to Russia, there is currently no movement in the peace talks with Ukraine. The government in Kyiv shows an absolute lack of will to continue the talks, said Presidential Office spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The Russian war of aggression began at the end of February and has been going on for around three months. The fighting is mainly concentrated in the east of Ukraine, without Russia being able to record any significant territorial gains. However, most of the information from the region cannot be independently verified.
