Around 20 to 30 million Germans believe in conspiracies. This ranges from the “planned” September 11 to many crude conspiracies around Corona. In “Today important” the head of a counseling center explains what relatives can do about it.
“One of the reasons why we tend to conspiracy narratives is that we are regaining control over our lives,” says Tobias Meilicke. He is the head of “Veritas” in Berlin, an advice center for relatives of people who believe in conspiracies. In an interview with “important today” host Michel Abdollahi, Meilicke says that one has to figure out how to replace the conspiracy narrative with something else. Often, for example, the corona deniers simply lack recognition and security. If you know that as a partner: in or daughter, then you can deal with it completely differently. Another tip from the experts: don’t always go straight to a confrontation. This directly rocks the conflict. And: set limits. If you don’t want to talk about the topic anymore, you have to say that very clearly and instead bring something else into the conversation.
