The state has so far spent around 3.7 billion euros on free rapid tests. This should end in autumn. Now the Greens are clearly positioning themselves against it.
The health expert of the Greens in the Bundestag, Janosch Dahmen, rejects plans for chargeable corona tests. “The debate comes at the wrong time. If we look at that specifically, over 30 million people are still unvaccinated, ”he said in the“ ARD morning magazine ”.
Making the previous free quick tests chargeable from autumn is “not only unfair, but above all bad because it puts us in another blind flight in the pandemic”.
The free tests have cost the state around 3.7 billion euros so far this year. The Federal Ministry of Health named this number at the request of the “Rheinische Post”. For comparison: the federal government spent around 2.9 billion euros in 2020 on financial support for students and schoolchildren (Bafög).
There is currently a discussion about ending the exemption from costs for the tests for all those for whom there is a vaccination recommendation. The ministry has proposed this for mid-October.
