In it, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia expresses his great love for Turkey, as the “Welt” continues to report. In addition, he wants to work for a “very serious partnership agreement” with the country. If elected, the Union’s candidate for chancellor would prefer a coalition with the SPD.

At the request of “Welt” the State Chancellery in North Rhine-Westphalia announced that the conversation with the Prime Minister had not taken place. It was neither an authorized interview, nor did Laschet speak to the interviewer at all.

Faruk Sen, the operator of the “Brandday” website and author of the alleged conversation, has so far left a request from the newspaper unanswered.
