After a corona outbreak in North Korea, US President Joe Biden offered the isolated country vaccine supplies – but received no response.
After confirmation of a corona outbreak by North Korea, according to President Joe Biden, the USA is ready to quickly deliver vaccines to the country. “We are ready to do that immediately,” Biden said in Seoul on Saturday. The US had already offered help, but North Korea had not responded. Among other things, China offered help. The state-controlled media in North Korea, meanwhile, reported that the “spread of the vicious epidemic” was now slowed down and under control.
Serious situation in isolated North Korea
Biden and his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk Yeol expressed concern about the “Covid-19 outbreak” in North Korea at their meeting in Seoul, they said in a joint statement. Accordingly, both sides are willing to support North Korea in the fight against the virus together with the international community.
The governments of the USA and South Korea are assuming a serious situation in the internationally isolated North Korea. Despite the dispute over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, both countries emphasize that they are ready to provide humanitarian aid to the North Koreans.
North Korea was one of the last countries in the world to officially confirm last week that there were cases of infection with the pathogen. Since the end of April, the number of fever-related illnesses has skyrocketed. On Saturday, the country reported that almost 2.5 million cases had been registered so far, and hundreds of thousands of people were still being treated. There have been more than 60 deaths. There is no official confirmation as to whether those affected are infected with the corona virus because, according to experts, the country has hardly any testing capacities.
